holiness

ADDITIONAL DISCIPLESHIP RESOURCES

WHat does the bible say?

Holiness means to be set apart. When someone is holy it means that they are distinct, separated from, and consecrated – especially regarding moral purity. We know that God is holy, and that He made a way for us to be holy. He even commands us to live holy lives.

God Is Holy And Set Apart From Us

Psalm 24:3-4 says, “Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord? And who shall stand in His holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to what is false and does not swear deceitfully.”

(see also: Isaiah 6:3; Exodus 15:11; 1 Samuel 2:2; Isaiah 40:25)

Are you comforted by the fact that God is holy? Why or why not?

God Made A Way For Us To Be Holy

Colossians 1:21:22 says, “And you, who once were alienated and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds, He has now reconciled in His body of flesh by His death, in order to present you holy and blameless and above reproach before Him.”

(see also: Jude 1:24; Ephesians 1:4; Ephesians 5:27; 1 Corinthians 1:8)

What is this scripture describing?

How did God make a way for us to be holy?

God Commands Us To Live Holy Lives

1 Peter 1:14-16 says, “As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written, ‘You shall be holy, for I am holy.’”

(see also: 2 Corinthians 7:1; 1 John 3:3; 1 Thessalonians 4:7; Hebrews 12:14)

Can you explain this paradoxical truth?

We are a new creation, made righteous through Jesus, and God commands us to live holy lives.

HOW CAN YOU RESPOND?

It’s One Thing To Know About Holiness. It’s Another Thing To Apply It To Your Life

Be vulnerable with another person about any and every area of your life that is impure.

Then ask God together what practical changes can / should be made.

Then make those changes, and ask the person to hold you accountable.
